The Student Success Project’s central Project Officer, Dave Thomas, Systems Development Officer, James Grant and project researcher, Dr Alex Hensby recently attended the annual UKAT conference 5th – 6th April 2017. UKAT (United Kingdom Advising and Tutoring group) is a professional body of practitioners and researchers interested in all aspects of advising and personal tutoring in FE and HE in the UK.
“The conference aim was to explore current trends and approaches for encouraging student attainment and to promote the sharing of experiences and innovative practice.Themes were Advising and Personal Tutoring for Success, Attainment and Retention, with a particular focus on the impact that personal tutoring and academic advising can have on the differential attainment of students from diverse backgrounds, and strategies for supporting students to achieve academic and future goals.”

Professor Kevin Hylton, the first black Professor of Equality and Diversity in Sport, Leisure and Education and Head of the Research Centre for Diversity, Equity and Inclusion will be visiting the University of Kent School of Sport and Exercise Science, Wednesday 4th October 2017.
His research focuses on the nature and extent of ‘race’, racism and racialization in sport, leisure and education. He will be speaking to both staff and students about race and belonging.
