The University of Kent’s Outreach Team have developed a new student led project, ‘Mentoring and University Insights for Black Students’, which will be managed by a team of 11 Student Ambassadors who will research, design, and deliver the initiative.

The Ambassadors plan to meet with black sixth form students from UKAT (University of Kent Academies Trust) on a once monthly basis over 4 months, with each meeting focusing on different a theme, such as extra-curricular opportunities at university, additional support at university, university as a place of research.

The first of 4 programme topics, starting on Wednesday 3rd March, will be Practical considerations to help when researching universities before you apply, as well as once you start, and will highlight the work universities are doing to diversify the curriculum.

Dr Barbara Adewumi, Student Success Research Associate, will be a guest speaker for the first event, and will talk about her role in engaging University of Kent student interns via the Careers and Employability Service Work Study Scheme, to work on collaborative projects such as Diversity Mark.
