Chineke! Ensemble comes to Kent

In collaboration with the Gulbenkian Theatre, the Student Success Project was delighted to welcome the Chineke! Ensemble to our Medway campus on Wednesday 27th February.

Comprised of orchestral musicians from the Chineke! Orchestra, a group of 8 musicians thrilled the audience with pieces from Richard Strauss, Beethoven, and the African-American classical composer Florence Price.

The audience, made up of students from all 3 Medway universities, staff, and members of the public, were also treated to an enlightening question and answer session with American Sphinx Virtuosi violinist Randall Goosby. Randall spoke at length about the challenges of being a young black classical artist in the United States, as well as his outreach work in public schools promoting his love of music.

The Chineke! Foundation was established in 2015 to provide career opportunities to young Black and Minority Ethnic (BME) classical musicians in the UK and Europe.
