“An 80,000 word thesis would take 9 hours to present. Your time… 3 minutes.
The Three Minute Thesis (3MT®) competition celebrates the exciting research conducted by Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) students.
Developed by The University of Queensland (UQ), the exercise cultivates students’ academic, presentation, and research communication skills. The competition supports their capacity to effectively explain their research in three minutes, in a language appropriate to a non-specialist audience” (University of Kent, 2016)
Rebecca told us that “The 3MT competition seemed like the perfect challenge during the final six months of my PhD. I saw it as an opportunity to highlight the importance of the experiments that I have carried out over the past three years and to piece them together as a story that I can share with a new audience. I thought that compressing the key points into three minutes would be a great start to writing a much longer thesis! I was delighted to find out that I will be representing the University of Kent at the semi-final and my competitive spirit is definitely kicking in! I really hope that I will reach the final and bring the 3MT title home to the University of Kent”
