Student Success (EDI) Project presented at conference for HEFCE (Higher Education Funding Council for England)

Student Success Project

The Student Success Project Manager, Jan Moriarty, delivered an insightful presentation at the recent Higher Education sector conference, The future of evaluation and evidence across the student lifecycle, hosted by HEFCE.

Conference delegates included senior institutional colleagues to discuss what the Higher Education sector needs in order to accurately evaluate institutional activity on student access, success and progression.

Specifically, Jan’s presentation focused on the pragmatic way in which research is applied within the Student Success (EDI) Project to create positive cultural change at the University of Kent. Delegates at the conference were introduced to the unique way of evaluating student success.

Jan demonstrated the value in conducting “action research”, a process in which academic and action research run simultaneously, over a two year period in 9 pilot schools across the University. This process is facilitated by dedicated project officers in each pilot school and has naturally generated an efficient system in which both research findings can be actioned on the ground quickly, and findings from pilot schools can be tested by other experienced researchers.
