School of Engineering and Digital Arts: Student Success Project Officer Wins Most Innovative Staff Project at Innovation Awards 2016

The School of Engineering and Digital Arts’ Student Success Project Officer, David Atkins, has won the Most Innovative Staff Project at the KIE ICE Showcase Event Innovation Awards 2016.

In line with the University’s institutional strategy to heighten student satisfaction and embrace the government’s Teaching Excellence Framework, David has been recognised for the exceptional work in student preparedness, and student success.

As a result of EDA’s commitment to understanding their student community, David has developed innovations by maximizing the creative engineering and digital media resources available in the School. The standout innovation to be recognized was the Virtual Student Adviser, a web application that enables EDA students to quickly and efficiently navigate the university’s many support resources. Other innovations recognized included the Progress Profiles, optimizations in the Academic Peer Mentoring scheme that both David and his colleague Elizabeth Buswell have implemented in the School, spearheading the Student Success animation, developing the Welcome Week Icebreaker, and the weekly Gaming Nights to promote a sense of belongingness in EDA.
