Biometric Enrolment Letter – Important Information

The way in which Biometric Enrolment letters are issued has changed. A Biometric Enrolment Letter (BEL) for  students is now automatically created when you complete your online application. UKVI have noted that a number of students have been submitting their Biometric Enrolment Letter and receipt from their biometric enrolment along with their supporting documents. This is not necessary; you should retain your BEL and receipt from your biometric enrolment for your own records.

Safety First – be aware of frauds and scams

Some criminals specifically target international students, telephoning them and pretending to be from a legitimate organisation (such as the UK Home Office, an education agent or even UKCISA). They demand money (calling it a “fine” for a non-existent immigration problem), and claim that if you do not pay them quickly, there will be damaging consequences (for example, deportation or cancelling your visa).

Read the UKCISA guidance here on identifying scams and how to respond.

Attention: Email servers 126.com, 163.com, sina.cn and qq.com – trouble receiving ATAS emails

Chinese students using email servers 126.com, 163.com, sina.cn and qq.com may have difficulty receiving messages from the ATAS team. If you use one of these email providers and are still awaiting a decision on an ATAS application submitted on or before 15 January 2017, contact the ATAS team at: ATAS@fco.gov.uk. Students should also consider using Yahoo, Gmail, Hotmail or similar commercial email providers, if possible.

New Police Registration System

The new Kent Police Registration System for Foreign Nationals is now live. From today, if you are a foreign national who needs to register or report a change to your registration (new visa, address etc) you will need to visit the Kent police website to log on, fill out the registration form, download your photograph and book your own appointment.

All students will have to log onto the website shown below and record their details. However, if you are changing your address, you can then send your Certificate in the post, to be updated.

The website is: https://www.kent.police.uk/services/foreign-national-register

*The students will still need to provide all the documentation that is currently required when they visit the Nationality Office.

You can find more information regarding Police Registration on our website. Please do not hesitate to contact us if you have any questions regarding Police Registration and we will do our best to help you.

Police Registration

The University has received the following message from the Nationality Department at Kent Police:

Firstly, thank you for your patience and understanding during our recent period of upheaval. Normal service is gradually being restored so students should now contact us either by e-mail  nationality.dept@kent.pnn.police.uk or by  telephone  on 01303  297337 or 297338  –  the office is manned  08.00 – 16.00. Their appointment is likely to be somewhat in the future and of course this will fall foul of the 7 day requirement to register but in the circumstances this is unavoidable.

If any students are concerned about leaving the country without  having been registered then we can provide a letter to hopefully ease their anxiety and satisfy any  immigration officer that might enquire about lack of registration.”
