Coronavirus update

The University continues to monitor the advice from the Foreign and Commonwealth Office (FCO), Public Health England (PHE), the British Council and World Health Organisation (WHO) following the ongoing outbreak of coronavirus originating in Wuhan City, Hubei Province, China.

As is consistent with the latest FCO and British Council advice, we are postponing all study, research and work-related travel to China and advising all staff and students against making any trips for personal reasons.

The government has stated that the UK is extremely well prepared for any potential outbreak of an infectious disease.

Please find current updates on the University’s position on the COVID-19 Coronavirus outbreak here.

We would also recommend that you check for updates on the UK Council for International Student Affairs (UKCISA) website as they provide information from UK Visas and Immigration (UKVI), the Department for Education (DfE) as well as general support for international students.

If you are concerned that any absences will affect your immigration status, please read the FAQs for further information. Please note that absences not relating to illness will not be authorised. Tier 4 students are still expected to abide by the terms and conditions of sponsorship and as such should notify the relevant departments as per information in the FAQs.”

Industrial Action – Information about strike period

You may access the full page of information available here.

Please assume all classes are being taught unless you are told otherwise. As long as you continue to attend all contact and engagement points wherever possible, your visa status will not be affected by the industrial action. Your academic school will issue the necessary authorised absences for contact points affected by the action.

For taught students, you should attend rescheduled events being held within normal prescribed term dates (term ends on Friday 3rd April 2020). Your attendance and participation are required during term time as conditions of your Tier 4 sponsorship.

While other staff may offer advice about your status, it is important that you only take advice on your Tier 4 student visa status from qualified members of University or Kent Union staff:

We appreciate this may be a difficult time for some of our international students. Please be assured we are here to help you. Please refer to the Advice and Support section if you require further guidance.
