Middle Temple Access to the Bar Award<\/h2>\n

Background<\/strong><\/u><\/p>\n

The Middle Temple Access to the Bar Awards are an example of how we aim to reach able students from backgrounds which do not traditionally encourage aspirations for a career at the Bar and help them to make an informed choice about their opportunities. Funded by the donations of senior members of the Inn, the scheme provides two funded weeks (\u00a3350 per week) of work experience every summer for up to thirty undergraduates from disadvantaged backgrounds. One week is spent marshalling (i.e. shadowing a judge in court) and the other week in Chambers with a barrister. Where possible Chambers and Courts close to the candidate\u2019s home are selected for the scheme. However, where necessary the Inn will provide accommodation to complete the scheme in London or another city.\u00a0 Candidates will also receive invitations to networking events.<\/p>\n

Eligibility<\/strong><\/u><\/p>\n

The scheme is open to undergraduate and postgraduate students who;<\/p>\n

\u25cf Are available to participate from the final week of June to the end of the first week of July.<\/p>\n

\u25cf are in the 2nd<\/strong>, 3rd<\/strong> or 4th<\/strong> year of a qualifying law degree.<\/p>\n

\u25cf have little or no family history of higher or professional education.<\/p>\n

\u25cf completed secondary education in a state school.<\/p>\n

\u25cf are not a member of the Honourable Society of Inner Temple, The Honourable Society of Lincoln\u2019s Inn or the Honourable Society of Gray\u2019s Inn.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

The Application Process<\/strong><\/u><\/p>\n

Each university that participates in the scheme will carry out the initial shortlisting and will submit selected applications to the Middle Temple.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

Each application must include the following:<\/p>\n

1. Application form, completed, signed, and dated.<\/p>\n

2. Two reference names – these must be 2 of your tutors and we need names only DO NOT ask your tutors for your own references.<\/p>\n
