You\u2019re settling into your\u00a0new off-campus accommodation\u00a0\u2013 \u00a0what\u00a0do you need to think about next to\u00a0make sure you\u2019re sorted at your new address?\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n The College and Community Life Team have put together a\u00a0checklist to help:<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n Have you\u00a0<\/span>registered to vote<\/span><\/a>\u00a0at your new address?\u00a0Don\u2019t miss out on\u00a0the chance to make\u00a0a\u00a0positive change to the Canterbury district.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n Are you in a whole new area?\u00a0<\/span>Register with\u00a0your local\u00a0GP<\/span><\/a>. If you\u2019re not far from your existing GP practice\u00a0and wish to stay there for your medical care, inform them of your new address.\u00a0If you\u00a0are a Canterbury student\u00a0registered with the\u00a0University\u00a0Medical Centre on\u00a0campus, you can stay registered there for the duration of your time as a\u00a0student.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n Do you have any delivery subscriptions, services or\u00a0regular\u00a0post\u00a0such as bank statements that went to your old address?\u00a0Make a list and then set aside time to notify all those providers of your new address.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n Is\u00a0your\u00a0term time address on KentVision\u00a0correct?\u00a0<\/span>Check and\u00a0amend your address<\/span>,\u00a0by going to\u00a0<\/span>KentVision<\/span><\/a>\u00a0and\u00a0then\u00a0‘My Details’, and then\u00a0‘My Personal Details\u2019.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n Avoid late payments on rent and bills\u00a0–\u00a0set up an automated\u00a0standing order\u00a0or\u00a0direct debit\u00a0so you’re not relying on memory.\u00a0Check\u00a0out this article from Money Helper on\u00a0<\/span>the best way to pay\u00a0bills.<\/span><\/a>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n Have you said hello to your new neighbours?\u00a0It’s worth\u00a0developing\u00a0a\u00a0good\u00a0relationship with\u00a0people living nearby so you can be a help for one another. If you\u2019re planning on\u00a0hosting\u00a0a party,\u00a0let your neighbours know\u00a0in advance,\u00a0and agree some conditions about noise, music and finishing time.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n It\u2019s mandatory for your landlord to ensure you have working smoke detectors in your property. You can\u00a0check they are functional\u00a0by pressing the \u201ctest\u201d button on your alarm.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n Adding your own\u00a0decorative touches\u00a0to a place can make it feel like home, but take care to ensure you don\u2019t break your contract by making any permanent marks or changes.
