You may be feeling disturbed by the images you have seen on the news. You may be feeling worried about the safety of loved ones. If you have lived through similar events yourself, the current crisis may be bringing up some very traumatic memories.<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;335559739&quot;:360}\">\u00a0<\/span><span data-contrast=\"none\">Staff in Student Support and Wellbeing are here to support you during these unsettling times.<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;335559738&quot;:360,&quot;335559739&quot;:360}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<h4><span data-contrast=\"none\">Try to be intentional in how you are consuming news, avoid long &#8216;scrolling through&#8217;\u202fsessions<\/span><\/h4>\n<ul>\n<li data-leveltext=\"\uf0a7\" data-font=\"Wingdings\" data-listid=\"1\" data-aria-posinset=\"1\" data-aria-level=\"1\"><span data-contrast=\"none\">Take a break from watching the news \u2013 consider checking in at certain times of the day only.<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;134233117&quot;:true,&quot;134233118&quot;:true}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li data-leveltext=\"\uf0a7\" data-font=\"Wingdings\" data-listid=\"1\" data-aria-posinset=\"2\" data-aria-level=\"1\"><span data-contrast=\"none\">Mute or turn off news notifications on your phone\u202f<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;134233117&quot;:true,&quot;134233118&quot;:true}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li data-leveltext=\"\uf0a7\" data-font=\"Wingdings\" data-listid=\"1\" data-aria-posinset=\"3\" data-aria-level=\"1\"><span data-contrast=\"none\">Mute or unfollow social media accounts if you are feeling overwhelmed, or limit your news intake to once or twice a day<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;134233117&quot;:true,&quot;134233118&quot;:true}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h4><span data-contrast=\"none\">Make time for people, activities and actions that are positive for your wellbeing<\/span><\/h4>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"none\">What helps will be different for each person, but here are a few ideas;<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li data-leveltext=\"\uf0a7\" data-font=\"Wingdings\" data-listid=\"6\" data-aria-posinset=\"1\" data-aria-level=\"1\"><span data-contrast=\"none\">Connect with friends and family members.<\/span><\/li>\n<li data-leveltext=\"\uf0a7\" data-font=\"Wingdings\" data-listid=\"6\" data-aria-posinset=\"2\" data-aria-level=\"1\"><span data-contrast=\"none\">Go for a walk in the fresh air.<\/span><\/li>\n<li data-leveltext=\"\uf0a7\" data-font=\"Wingdings\" data-listid=\"6\" data-aria-posinset=\"3\" data-aria-level=\"1\"><span data-contrast=\"none\">Listen to a podcast<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;134233117&quot;:true,&quot;134233118&quot;:true}\">.<\/span><\/li>\n<li data-leveltext=\"\uf0a7\" data-font=\"Wingdings\" data-listid=\"6\" data-aria-posinset=\"4\" data-aria-level=\"1\"><span data-contrast=\"none\">Listen to some soothing or inspiring music.<\/span><\/li>\n<li data-leveltext=\"\uf0a7\" data-font=\"Wingdings\" data-listid=\"6\" data-aria-posinset=\"4\" data-aria-level=\"1\"><span data-contrast=\"none\">Write out your thoughts and feelings in a journal.<\/span><\/li>\n<li data-leveltext=\"\uf0a7\" data-font=\"Wingdings\" data-listid=\"6\" data-aria-posinset=\"4\" data-aria-level=\"1\"><span data-contrast=\"none\">Go to the gym.<\/span><\/li>\n<li data-leveltext=\"\uf0a7\" data-font=\"Wingdings\" data-listid=\"6\" data-aria-posinset=\"4\" data-aria-level=\"1\"><span data-contrast=\"none\">Grab a coffee with a friend.<\/span><\/li>\n<li data-leveltext=\"\uf0a7\" data-font=\"Wingdings\" data-listid=\"6\" data-aria-posinset=\"4\" data-aria-level=\"1\"><span data-contrast=\"none\">Connecting with nature can be very soothing, there are some lovely walks on campus or along the river Stour.<\/span><\/li>\n<li data-leveltext=\"\uf0a7\" data-font=\"Wingdings\" data-listid=\"6\" data-aria-posinset=\"4\" data-aria-level=\"1\"><span data-contrast=\"none\">Have you caught the bus to Whitstable yet, why not have a walk along the beach?<\/span><\/li>\n<li data-leveltext=\"\uf0a7\" data-font=\"Wingdings\" data-listid=\"6\" data-aria-posinset=\"4\" data-aria-level=\"1\"><span data-contrast=\"none\">Try to have a regular sleep pattern.<\/span><\/li>\n<li data-leveltext=\"\uf0a7\" data-font=\"Wingdings\" data-listid=\"6\" data-aria-posinset=\"4\" data-aria-level=\"1\"><span data-contrast=\"none\">Try to eat healthily which will help when you are feeling emotionally depleted.<\/span><\/li>\n<li data-leveltext=\"\uf0a7\" data-font=\"Wingdings\" data-listid=\"6\" data-aria-posinset=\"4\" data-aria-level=\"1\">Listen to some guided meditations as these can really help as a distraction from racing thoughts.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h4><span data-contrast=\"none\">Focus as much as you can on hope<\/span><\/h4>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"none\">Amidst all the horrors of this war, there are also reports of wonderful acts of courage, bravery and compassion. Take a look at the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.goodnewsnetwork.org\/\">Good News Network<\/a><\/span> website, which seeks to be an antidote to the barrage of negativity we get from major news outlets. The Good News Network also has an <a href=\"https:\/\/www.goodnewsnetwork.org\/our-new-good-news-app-for-android-and-iphone\/\">app<\/a>, and a\u00a0weekly\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.goodnewsnetwork.org\/category\/good-talks\/podcasts\/\">Good News Gurus<\/a> podcast. We&#8217;re here to support you with mental health, disabilities, and neurodiversity such as specific learning difficulties or autism, through 1:1 support as well as <a href=\"https:\/\/www.kent.ac.uk\/student-support#events\">peer support groups and events<\/a>. Here&#8217;s a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=y_9EVtHZPQg\">video of top mental health tips from our mental health team<\/a>.<\/p>\n<h4 id=\"page-title\">Wellbeing Drop-in Sessions for students affected by the Ukrainian and Russian Conflict<\/h4>\n<p>The Student Support and Wellbeing Service are hosting Lunchtime Tea and Coffee Drop-In sessions every Monday at 1.00pm starting on the 7th of March 2022.\u00a0\u00a0The sessions will be facilitated by two Mental Health Advisers. Please do come along to find a safe space to talk, discuss support or simply be together in those difficult times. The Group Room in I Block is located to the right of the pond outside Dolche Vita; the Mental Health Advisers will wait at the pond to greet you.
