Events in Canterbury<\/strong><\/h3>\nThe launch event for LGBT+ History Month at Kent<\/a><\/strong> takes place on Tuesday 7 February<\/strong>, and will feature the opening of the LGBTQ+ love letters<\/span> exhibition, a performance from Drag Queen Dame Jame<\/strong><\/a>, and a talk by trans activist Connor Styche<\/strong><\/a> about their own experiences.<\/p>\nThe #BehindTheLens exhibition<\/a><\/strong> (on display in the Marlowe Building lobby from 7 to 28 February<\/strong>) explores our own history at Kent, pulling materials from our archives and also showcasing the Zine Library, created by members of the LGBTQ+ community.<\/p>\nOther events on the Canterbury campus:<\/p>\n
\n- Watch\u00a0a special preview screening of Joyland<\/a><\/strong>, a film about the love between a back-up dancer in a Bollywood-style burlesque and the strong-willed trans woman who runs the show, at\u00a0the Gulbenkian cinema on Valentine’s day (Tuesday 14 February<\/strong>)<\/li>\n
- Make pronoun badges<\/a><\/strong>\u00a0and queer Valentine’s cards<\/a><\/strong>, or join the zine workshop with the Queer Zine Library<\/a><\/strong>.<\/li>\n
- Listen to a talk from local author Rosa Rankin-Gee<\/a><\/strong>\u00a0at Templeman Library on Wednesday 22 February<\/strong>.<\/li>\n
- Test your knowledge at the LGBTQ+ quiz night takeover in Woody’s<\/a><\/strong> on Sunday 26 February<\/strong>, organised by Kent Union.<\/li>\n
- Pop into an event from the Careers and Employability service on LGBTQ+ friendly employers<\/a><\/strong>, a coffee and cake morning for CEMS students<\/a><\/strong>, or come to the first Period Caf\u00e9,<\/a><\/strong> where anyone can come to talk about period anxiety, period dysphoria and chat in a safe and supportive environment (and have some cake!)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

Events in Medway<\/strong><\/h3>\nFrom Wednesday 1 February<\/strong>, you can come and see the LGBTQ+ In Lockdown exhibition<\/a><\/strong> (previously on display on the Canterbury campus) in Drill Hall Library.<\/p>\nOther events to celebrate the month include:<\/p>\n

Online events and resources<\/strong><\/h3>\nWe have explored the Special Collections Archives at the University of Kent to explore our LGBTQ+ history, take a look at the timeline on our LGBT History Month webpage<\/a>.<\/p>\nThere are also lots of online events:<\/p>\n
\n- Watch the play Angels in America on-demand<\/a><\/strong> – this production explores the AIDS crisis in the 1980\u2019s.<\/li>\n
- Listen to an online talk by Rebecca Milsom<\/a><\/strong>, a Kent graduate who speaks openly about her experiences being LGBTQ+ in the world of work on Thursday 16 February.<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n
