Be part of a project to better understand students’ experiences of mental health at Kent so we can tailor and improve support to suit you.

EDIT: This project is currently fully subscribed. We will share the findings of this research with the wider Kent community as soon as we’re able. If you’d like to be involved in future mental health feedback research or focus groups, please email wellbeingevents@kent.ac.uk from your university account and we’ll keep your details for future opportunities.

All Kent students are invited to take part in a research project jointly run with Sheffield Hallam University to discuss mental health in a university environment, called The Listening Rooms.

What exactly does the Listening Rooms research entail?

Answering a few questions on your views and having a conversation with a fellow student you trust for less than an hour, which is recorded for a researcher to listen back to. All conversations are confidential and anonymised at the point of transcription, so there is no link between you and your answers.

What do you need to do to take part?

As the conversation will be between two students, you’re invited to sign up with a friend who is also studying at Kent who you are happy to talk about mental health with – simply email wellbeingevents@kent.ac.uk from your Kent account and give both of your Kent logins. You will then receive further instructions about diarising the conversation at a mutually convenient time – this will be online and can be whatever daytime slot suits you best.

What will happen to the information recorded?

Sheffield Hallam University and the University of Kent will look at the information gathered on student opinions on mental health through this project, and use it to inform our improvement of support services to help us provide a better experience for current and future students at Kent.

What’s in it for you?

A £20 Amazon voucher and 5 Employability Points will be given to each student participant in the Listening Rooms. But hurry! Only 10 pairs will be recorded on a first come, first served basis, so email WellbeingEvents@kent.ac.uk with yours and your partner’s logins (make sure they’ve agreed first!) as soon as you can for a chance to take part. All conversations will need to take place by 11th March.
