For some of you on short courses, December marks the end of your time at Kent \u2013 and we\u2019ll be sad to see you go! Before you head off, take a few minutes to check over your room and make sure it\u2019s ready for the next student to move in.<\/p>\n

Departure checklist<\/a>:<\/strong><\/p>\n<\/header>\n

\u2705\u00a0Pack up your belongings \u2013\u00a0<\/strong>Take all your important items with you or arrange for them to be stored or donated by\u00a010am on your\u00a0departure day<\/a><\/strong>.<\/p>\n

\u2705\u00a0Arrange storage or shipping for your belongings \u2013<\/strong>If you\u2019re not taking everything with you,\u00a0explore local or national storage and shipping services<\/a>\u00a0to keep your items safe until you return home or move to your next place.<\/p>\n

\u2705\u00a0Donate unwanted items \u2013\u00a0<\/strong>If you have clothes, books, or electronics you no longer need, consider donating them to\u00a0Kent Union\u2019s STUFF<\/strong><\/a>\u00a0initiative or use the\u00a0British Heart Foundation<\/a>\u00a0donation banks<\/strong>\u00a0across campus. You can find your nearest location using our\u00a0bins and recycling map<\/strong><\/a>.<\/p>\n

\u2705\u00a0Avoid damage when moving out \u2013\u00a0<\/strong>Take care when removing items from walls or furniture to avoid causing damage \u2013 for example, adhesive LED light strips can lift paint. Repair costs for any damage may be charged to your account.<\/p>\n

\u2705Update your postal address \u2013\u00a0<\/strong>Make sure to update your address with anyone or any company that sends you mail, including your\u00a0bank, phone provider, and online retailers<\/strong>. Even if you\u2019re returning to campus accommodation next year, we\u2019re unable to accept or forward mail for students not currently in residence. You can also check the\u00a0Post Office\u2019s mail redirection service<\/strong><\/a>\u00a0for more guidance.<\/p>\n

\u2705\u00a0Switch off and unplug<\/strong>\u00a0\u2013 Turn off and unplug all electricals (except the fridge).<\/p>\n

\u2705\u00a0Clear out your food<\/strong>\u00a0\u2013 Empty your bin and remove all food from your fridge \u2013 no one enjoys dealing with lumpy milk! Non-perishables like tins or dried goods can be donated at the\u00a0Mandela Building<\/strong>\u00a0or\u00a0Kent Union Building (Woody\u2019s)<\/strong>\u00a0in Park Wood.<\/p>\n

\u2705\u00a0Return your key or fob<\/strong>\u00a0\u2013 Hand these in at reception before you leave. If the reception is closed, pop them in the key drop box.<\/p>\n

If you plan to leave before your original contract end date, please complete an\u00a0Application for Early Termination of the Agreement<\/strong>\u00a0(found in the\u00a0Changing your room\/contract, leaving early or not arriving<\/em><\/a>\u00a0section of the FAQs) and include details of your circumstances.<\/p>\n

Taking these steps will help make your move-out as smooth as possible, and a little preparation now goes a long way in avoiding last-minute stress and keeping your accommodation in great condition for the next student.<\/p>\n
