{"id":83,"date":"2025-05-08T13:33:33","date_gmt":"2025-05-08T12:33:33","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/blogs.kent.ac.uk\/student-news\/?p=83"},"modified":"2025-09-08T14:23:05","modified_gmt":"2025-09-08T13:23:05","slug":"new-kent-food-hub-collection-point-on-campus","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.kent.ac.uk\/student-news\/2025\/05\/08\/new-kent-food-hub-collection-point-on-campus\/","title":{"rendered":"New Kent Food Hub collection point on campus"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>The University is excited to announce a new collaboration with\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.kentfoodhubs.co.uk\/\">Kent Food Hubs CIC<\/a>, launching a student-run collection hub on campus. \u202f\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The launch of a collection point on campus will give students, staff, and local residents the\u00a0<strong>opportunity to collect their orders of fresh, local produce without a delivery charge<\/strong>\u00a0\u2013 making sustainable and affordable food more accessible than ever.\u00a0<strong>The collection point \u2013 in the Mandela Building \u2013 will be open between 14:00-16:00 every Friday.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>This initiative aligns with our Right to Food commitments to tackle food insecurity, champion healthy eating and support local produce. And staff and students can claim 10% off their first order by entering the code UKC1 at the checkout<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>Professor Iain Wilkinson, Lead for the Right to Food said: \u2018This partnership is a great way to demonstrate what the Right to Food is all about. We hope that by launching a collection point on campus we are giving our staff and students better access to healthy, sustainable and local food. We\u2019re keen to ensure that this is all done in an affordable way \u2013 and feel that Kent Food Hubs can help deliver on this front too.\u2019<\/p>\n<p>As part of this partnership, Kent Food Hubs is\u00a0<strong>introducing student-friendly bundles<\/strong>\u00a0designed to provide essential, high-quality ingredients at an affordable price. These include:<\/p>\n<ul class=\"bullet-list\">\n<li><strong>The Weekly Essentials Bundle (\u00a320):<\/strong>\u00a0A carefully curated selection of staple foods, including fresh vegetables, eggs, milk, bread, pasta, and rice or noodles\u2014perfect for student budgets and busy households.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<ul class=\"bullet-list\">\n<li><strong>The \u2018Fakeaway\u2019 Meal Deal:<\/strong>\u00a0A cook-at-home recipe kit featuring locally sourced ingredients to create a delicious homemade alternative to popular takeaways.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Beckie Alves, MD at Kent Food Hubs CIC, said: \u2018We\u2019re incredibly excited about this partnership.
