So what happens when students see their own experiences, identities and perspectives reflected in their learning?<\/p>\n<p>At Kent, the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.kent.ac.uk\/student-success\/diversity-mark\"><strong>Diversity Mark programme<\/strong><\/a> puts students at the heart of conversations about the curriculum, recognising that their experiences and perspectives are essential to creating more inclusive and representative learning. By bringing diverse voices, lived experiences and perspectives into teaching, Diversity Mark makes students <strong>seen, valued and that they belong<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>And students aren\u2019t just helping to shape the programme, they\u2019re actively involved in making it happen.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.kent.ac.uk\/student-success\/diversity-mark#student-involvement\"><strong>Diversity Mark Officers<\/strong><\/a>, are paid student roles, who work with academics and librarians to review modules and identify opportunities to bring a wider range of voices and perspectives into what students learn. It\u2019s a chance to influence the learning experience of others while developing valuable skills and experience along the way.<\/p>\n<p><strong>A recent Diversity Mark Officer described their experience:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>\u201cMy time as Diversity Mark Officer has been indispensable to both my personal and professional development. I have been involved in truly invaluable work diversifying the knowledge available to students, myself included. I have thoroughly enjoyed this role and being a part of this exceptional team.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Inclusive curricula mean more than seeing different names on a reading list. It enables students to recognise themselves in their studies, encounter perspectives beyond their own and feel more connected to their academic community.
