If you are starting university or returning to campus this autumn, check whether you are eligible for the MenB vaccine and make a plan to get protected. The University of Kent is offering on-campus clinics, alongside options through local GPs and pharmacies.<\/p>\n
New students and returning students<\/strong><\/p>\n The vaccine needs to be given in two doses, at least four weeks apart.<\/p>\n New students may already have had their first dose through their home GP, while others may need both doses after arriving at university.<\/p>\n Returning students who received the vaccine on campus earlier this year may already be protected, but it is still worth checking your records if you are unsure.<\/p>\n The autumn clinics are a chance to get either dose, depending on what you need. You should also make sure you are up to date with your other vaccinations, including MenACWY, which is available free to students under 25 through the University Medical Centre.<\/p>\n Autumn vaccination clinics<\/strong><\/p>\n Thursday 1 and Friday 2 October, 10:00 \u2013 16:00 | MenB<\/strong>, Canterbury Campus, Senate building | No booking needed. This clinic is for eligible students under 25.<\/p>\n Other ways to get vaccinated<\/strong><\/p>\n You can book an appointment with your local GP (Men ACWY) or use a pharmacy walk-in clinic (Men B), including the Giles Lane Pharmacy<\/a>.<\/p>\n Getting your first does early gives you the best chance of getting both doses within the offer period and ensuring you are protected.<\/p>\n Why vaccination matters<\/strong><\/p>\n Meningitis can develop quickly and can be serious. The University is working with the NHS, the UK Health Security Agency, Meningitis Now and the Meningitis Research Foundation to make information and vaccination easier to access for students.
