{"id":3028,"date":"2026-06-20T15:31:43","date_gmt":"2026-06-20T14:31:43","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/blogs.kent.ac.uk\/student-news\/?p=3028"},"modified":"2026-07-01T16:01:48","modified_gmt":"2026-07-01T15:01:48","slug":"celebrating-research-communication-3mt-competition-2026-winners-announced","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.kent.ac.uk\/student-news\/2026\/06\/20\/celebrating-research-communication-3mt-competition-2026-winners-announced\/","title":{"rendered":"Celebrating Research Communication: 3MT\u00ae Competition 2026 Winners Announced"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"isSelectedEnd\">On <strong>27 May 2026<\/strong>, the Graduate and Researcher College (GRC) hosted the University of Kent&#8217;s <strong>Three Minute Thesis (3MT\u00ae) Competition Final<\/strong>, bringing together some of our talented postgraduate researchers to share their research with a non-specialist audience in just three minutes.<\/p>\n<p class=\"isSelectedEnd\">Developed by The University of Queensland, the 3MT\u00ae competition celebrates the exciting research undertaken by PhD researchers while challenging participants to communicate the significance of their work clearly, confidently and engagingly. It&#8217;s an opportunity for researchers to develop their presentation and public engagement skills, making complex research accessible to a wider audience.<\/p>\n<p class=\"isSelectedEnd\">This year&#8217;s finalists presented on a diverse range of topics, showcasing the breadth of research taking place across the University:<\/p>\n<ul data-spread=\"false\">\n<li><strong>Changing Representations of Arabs in French Literature from 1943 to the Present Day<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>If Help Is Available\u2026 Why Don&#8217;t People Use It?<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>Impact of E-Scooter Usage on Physical Activity and Populational Health<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>Puppet and Material Manipulation and Creation<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>Walking the Talk: Exploring Lived Experiences of Urban Regeneration in King&#8217;s Cross<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p class=\"isSelectedEnd\">Following an impressive afternoon of presentations, the judges selected this year&#8217;s winners:<\/p>\n<p class=\"isSelectedEnd\">\ud83c\udfc6 <strong>Winner:<\/strong> Chris Payne from School of Natural Sciences &#8220;<em>Impact of E-Scooter Usage on Physical Activity and Populational Health&#8221;<\/em><\/p>\n<p class=\"isSelectedEnd\">\ud83e\udd48 <strong>Runner-up: <\/strong>Hasara Nuwangi from School of Social Sciences &#8220;<em>If Help Is Available\u2026 Why Don&#8217;t People Use It?&#8221;<\/em><\/p>\n<p class=\"isSelectedEnd\">Congratulations to both researchers on their outstanding presentations and well-deserved success.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>&#8220;A PhD is built on small wins. Celebrate each one\u2014they&#8217;re the milestones that lead to the finish line.&#8221; &#8211; 2026 runner up, Hasara Nuwangi<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p class=\"isSelectedEnd\">The winners were presented with their certificates during the <strong>Annual PGR Conference<\/strong>, where we celebrated the achievements of our postgraduate research community and recognised excellence in research communication.<\/p>\n<p class=\"isSelectedEnd\">We would also like to congratulate all of this year&#8217;s finalists. Presenting years of research in just three minutes is no easy task, and each participant demonstrated impressive communication skills, enthusiasm and passion for their research.<\/p>\n<p class=\"isSelectedEnd\">Finally, thank you to our judging panel and everyone who attended the final and supported our researchers throughout the competition.<\/p>\n<p>Congratulations once again to our winner, runner-up and all of this year&#8217;s finalists.
