{"id":2931,"date":"2026-06-18T13:45:54","date_gmt":"2026-06-18T12:45:54","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/blogs.kent.ac.uk\/student-news\/?p=2931"},"modified":"2026-06-18T13:45:54","modified_gmt":"2026-06-18T12:45:54","slug":"updates-to-terms-and-conditions-for-students","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.kent.ac.uk\/student-news\/2026\/06\/18\/updates-to-terms-and-conditions-for-students\/","title":{"rendered":"Updates to terms and conditions for students"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>As\u202fyou\u2019ll\u202fbe aware,\u202ffrom 1 August we\u202fare merging with the University of Greenwich\u00a0to create\u202fthe LASE\u202fUniversity Group, a groundbreaking new multi-university group model.\u202fThis will bring both\u00a0institutions into one legal entity\u202f\u2013 the \u2018UK\u2019s first super-university\u2019 \u2013\u202fwhile enabling each university to\u202fretain\u202fits name,\u202fidentity\u202fand local presence.<\/p>\n<p>The vision for the new group is to deliver an outstanding student experience from city to coast, with students at the heart of everything we do. Our collective strength will mean we can do much more to empower students at Greenwich and Kent to shape their futures, unlocking talent and potential.<\/p>\n<p>The merger is an evolution of\u00a0this\u00a0well-established relationship. Our two universities have been working together for more than 20 years and collaborate effectively. It is an opportunity to do even more together, strengthen our offering and bring greater benefits to students through innovative teaching, personalised support and a nurturing culture that celebrates individual differences.<\/p>\n<p>Importantly, there will be no impact on your course, modules,\u202fteaching\u202for campus location.\u202fYou will still graduate with a University of\u00a0Kent\u00a0degree certificate, which will also show the name of the LASE University Group.<\/p>\n<p>Both universities are working together to prepare for the next academic year. As part of that, we\u2019ve reviewed our student\u00a0terms and conditions\u00a0to reflect the fact that from 1 August 2026\u00a0all terms and conditions\u00a0will be with LASE University Group because Kent\u00a0will be part of the Group.<\/p>\n<p>You\u2019ll be asked to accept the terms and conditions as part of\u202fthe registration process for the\u202f2026\/27\u202facademic year, as usual.\u202fYou do not need to take any action at this point, although you can<strong> <a href=\"https:\/\/www.kent.ac.uk\/terms-and-conditions\">view\u202fthe\u202fterms and conditions<\/a><\/strong>\u202ffor information only. We\u2019ve taken the opportunity to review and improve them in line with best practice so there is also a <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.kent.ac.uk\/terms-and-conditions\">summary of any material changes<\/a>\u00a0<\/strong>from previous versions.<\/p>\n<p>We have produced a <strong>set of FAQs <\/strong>below on these contract updates.\u00a0Meanwhile you can\u202f<strong><a here<\/a>.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>FAQs<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The following FAQs have been produced\u00a0to help answer\u00a0likely\u00a0questions from students\u00a0on the changes to their terms and conditions.<\/p>\n<p><strong><em>What is changing?<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>All students agree\u00a0to the university\u2019s terms and conditions\u00a0at the start of\u00a0the\u00a0academic year\u00a0through the\u00a0registration process.<\/p>\n<p>The merger with the\u00a0University of Greenwich\u00a0on 1\u00a0August 2026 means that\u00a0the\u00a0terms and conditions\u00a0for the 2026\/27\u00a0academic year will be with LASE University Group, because Kent\u00a0will be part of the group.<\/p>\n<p>This\u00a0is\u00a0an administrative change because the\u00a0legal entity for contractual purposes is the LASE University Group rather than the University of\u00a0Kent.<\/p>\n<p>We have also taken this opportunity to review\u00a0and improve our student terms and conditions\u00a0so they are aligned with best practice and the requirements of the Office for Students.<\/p>\n<p>Because\u00a0Greenwich and Kent have different\u00a0student policies and\u00a0regulations, and\u00a0to reflect commitments we\u2019ve made to\u00a0students\u00a0in each university, there are\u00a0different versions of\u00a0the terms and conditions for Greenwich and href=\"https:\/\/www.kent.ac.uk\/terms-and-conditions\">summary of any material changes<\/a>\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong><em>What do I need to do?<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Nothing\u00a0at this stage.\u00a0As usual, students <strong>will<\/strong> accept the\u00a0terms and conditions when they\u00a0register\u00a0at\u00a0Kent\u00a0for the 2026\/27 academic year.<\/p>\n<p>You can\u00a0read\u00a0the\u00a0<strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.kent.ac.uk\/terms-and-conditions\">Kent\u00a0terms and\u00a0conditions<\/a>,<\/strong> and\u00a0we\u2019ve also produced a <strong><a location?<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>No.\u00a0This is\u00a0an administrative change to terms and conditions because the\u00a0legal entity for contractual purposes is the LASE University Group rather than the University of\u00a0Greenwich.<\/p>\n<p>There will be no impact on\u00a0students\u2019\u00a0courses, modules, teaching or campus location.<\/p>\n<p>Each university will retain its name, identity and local presence.<\/p>\n<p><strong><em>Will\u00a0my\u00a0degree\u00a0still be with the University of\u00a0Kent?<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Yes.\u00a0Students\u00a0will still graduate with a\u00a0University\u00a0of\u00a0Kent\u00a0degree certificate, which will also show the name of the LASE University Group.<\/p>\n<p><strong><em>Why are we contacting students about this change?<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>We\u2019re contacting students now to ensure they\u00a0are aware that the name of the body in the student terms and conditions will be LASE University Group when they register in the autumn, and to explain why that\u2019s necessary.<\/p>\n<p>We also want to make sure students are aware there will no changes to their courses,\u00a0teaching\u00a0or degree certificates.<\/p>\n<p><strong><em>Does this\u00a0affect students\u00a0at both\u00a0universities?<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Yes.\u00a0Student\u00a0terms and\u00a0conditions at both universities have been updated to reflect the change of\u00a0the legal entity\u00a0name to LASE\u00a0University Group plus\u00a0other improvements that we\u2019ve made.<\/p>\n<p><strong><em>Does this also affect accommodation contracts?<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Yes,\u00a0student accommodation contracts are also being updated\u00a0to reflect the change of\u00a0the legal entity\u00a0name to LASE University Group.<\/p>\n<p>Students\u00a0who have accommodation contracts\u00a0are\u00a0also\u00a0being informed\u00a0of the change\u00a0separately\u00a0via email.<\/p>\n<p><strong><em>Who do I contact if I have any questions?<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>If you have any questions about the student terms and conditions, please <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/student.kent.ac.uk\/support\/nexus\">contact Nexus<\/a>.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong><em>I am a student at the Kent and Medway Medical School.\u00a0Does this affect me?<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The\u00a0Kent and Medway Medical School\u00a0(KMMS)\u00a0is a collaboration between\u00a0Canterbury Christ\u00a0Church University\u202f(CCCU)\u00a0and the University of Kent.<\/p>\n<p>The merger of the University of Kent and the University of Greenwich\u00a0to form the LASE University Group\u00a0from 1 August\u00a0means\u00a0KMMS\u202fwill\u202fbecome\u00a0a collaboration between\u00a0CCCU\u202fand the LASE University Group.<\/p>\n<p>When you register for\u00a0the\u00a02026\/27\u00a0academic year you\u00a0will accept\u00a0student\u00a0terms and conditions\u00a0with\u202fKMMS, a joint medical school\u202foperated\u202fby CCCU\u00a0and the LASE University\u00a0Group.<\/p>\n<p>This is an administrative change.\u00a0There will be no impact on your course, modules,\u202fteaching\u202for campus location. You will still graduate with a\u202fCCCU and\u202fUniversity of Kent degree certificate, which will also show the name of the LASE University Group.<\/p>\n<p>The merger also means accommodation contracts will be with the LASE University Group rather than the University of Kent.\u202fIf you live in University of Kent accommodation, we will contact you again separately about this.<\/p>\n<p id=\"i-am-a-student-at-the-university-of-kent-international-college.-does-this-affect-me\"><em><strong>I am a student at the University of Kent International College. Does this affect me?<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n<p>The University of Kent International College (UKIC) is a collaboration between the University of Kent and Oxford International Education Group (Oxford International).<\/p>\n<p>The merger of the University of Greenwich and the University of Kent to form the LASE University Group from 1 August means UKIC will\u202fbecome a collaboration between the LASE University Group and Oxford International.<\/p>\n<p>UKIC students enter into terms and conditions with Oxford International, and that won\u2019t change. We intend to develop an updated version of our Kent Terms and Conditions specifically for UKIC students ahead of registration for the next academic year, and will contact UKIC students about this separately.<\/p>\n<p>This is an administrative change.
