{"id":2658,"date":"2026-05-13T15:24:11","date_gmt":"2026-05-13T14:24:11","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/blogs.kent.ac.uk\/student-news\/?p=2658"},"modified":"2026-05-13T15:25:08","modified_gmt":"2026-05-13T14:25:08","slug":"the-log-books-archives-of-queer-history-for-today-and-the-future","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.kent.ac.uk\/student-news\/2026\/05\/13\/the-log-books-archives-of-queer-history-for-today-and-the-future\/","title":{"rendered":"The Log Books: Archives of Queer History, for Today and the Future"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"noSpacingAbove noSpacingBelow\" data-text-type=\"noSpacing\">In the lead up to Pride Month, which takes place in June, the EDI team have organised an online event for all staff and students:\u00a0<strong>The Log Books: Archives of Queer History, for Today and the Future<\/strong>, Wednesday 20 May, 1-2pm.<\/p>\n<p class=\"noSpacingAbove noSpacingBelow\" data-text-type=\"withSpacing\">Adam Zmith and Tash Walker are the authors of <em>The Log Books: Voices from Queer Britain and the Helpline That Listene<\/em>d (Faber, Jan 2026) and the producers of <em>The Log Books<\/em> podcast. These projects are based on extensive research in the unique archive at Switchboard, the LGBTQ+ Helpline, where volunteers started taking anonymous phone calls about sexuality and gender identity in 1974. As Adam and Tash collected stories from Switchboard&#8217;s archive covering nightlife, housing, discrimination, HIV\/AIDS and migration, they also began work on thinking about archives more broadly \u2014 the memories of the queer elders they interviewed, and even their own experiences and stories.
