It is observed annually in March to celebrate the contributions, achievements, and influence of women throughout history and contemporary society. It also coincides with International Women&#8217;s Day on Sunday 8 March, which focuses on tackling gender inequality and highlighting overlooked stories. The first Women\u2019s History Day was held in 1909, followed by International Women\u2019s Day, which was established as a holiday in 1911. Women\u2019s History Day then became Women\u2019s History Week in 1978. Finally, it became Women\u2019s History Month in 1987. This year\u2019s theme for Women\u2019s History Month is \u2018Leading the Change: Women Shaping a Sustainable Future\u2019.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong><u>How can I learn more?<\/u><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>You can visit <a href=\"https:\/\/womenforwomen.org.uk\/blog\/origins-womens-history-month\"><strong>Women for Women International<\/strong><\/a> to find out more about the origins of Women\u2019s History Month. There is also advice on the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.inclusiveemployers.co.uk\/awareness-day\/international-womens-day\/\"><strong>Inclusive Employers<\/strong><\/a> website about celebrating Women\u2019s History Month at work. Students can visit the Kent Students\u2019 Union <a href=\"https:\/\/ksu.co.uk\/womens-history-month\"><strong>Women\u2019s History Month<\/strong><\/a> page to find out more about this year\u2019s theme and events that are happening.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong><u>What is happening at Kent?<\/u><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The School of Arts and Architecture are marking the overlap of Purim, Ramadan, and Women\u2019s History Month with a curated display of books by women scholars, writers, and thinkers with Jewish and Muslim backgrounds, working across the arts, humanities, and architecture. This display is called <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/livekentac.sharepoint.com\/sites\/Events\/_layouts\/15\/Event.aspx?ListGuid=a078c187-f4da-44e3-8c4c-24ff087ab069&amp;ItemId=434\">Women&#8217;s Voices in a Shared Season<\/a><\/strong> and is being held in the Templeman Library between Monday 2 March and Tuesday 31 March. There is also an <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/rl.talis.com\/3\/kent\/lists\/6A10BB20-4712-4D9E-DD2C-4F432247D81E.html?lang=en-GB&amp;login=1\">online library reading list<\/a><\/strong> with book suggestions. Kent Students\u2019 Union have events happening, such as <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/ksu.co.uk\/events\/id\/4458\">International Women&#8217;s Day Badge Making<\/a><\/strong>, <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/ksu.co.uk\/events\/id\/4357\">Give It a Go &#8211; Candle Painting<\/a><\/strong>, and a <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/ksu.co.uk\/events\/id\/4399\">Tree Planting Session and Wellbeing Cafe<\/a><\/strong>. Finally, the <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.kent.ac.uk\/kentsport-news\/international-womens-day-extravaganza-is-back-for-2026\/\">International Women\u2019s Day Extravaganza<\/a><\/strong> is taking place on Saturday 7 March, a free football session for all women and girls.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong><u>What networks and societies are there?<\/u><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Any students who identify as a woman can sign up to the <a href=\"https:\/\/ksu.co.uk\/networks\/Womens\"><strong>Women\u2019s Network<\/strong><\/a>. There are several subject-related societies, such as <a href=\"https:\/\/ksu.co.uk\/activities\/empoweringwomxninlaw\"><strong>Empowering Womxn in Law<\/strong><\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/ksu.co.uk\/activities\/WomeninBusiness\"><strong>Women in Business<\/strong><\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/ksu.co.uk\/activities\/Women-in-Politics\"><strong>Women in Politics<\/strong><\/a>, and <a href=\"https:\/\/ksu.co.uk\/activities\/womxninstem\"><strong>Womxn in STEM<\/strong><\/a>. There are also several sports clubs and groups, including <a href=\"https:\/\/ksu.co.uk\/activities\/basketball-womens\"><strong>Women\u2019s Basketball<\/strong><\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/ksu.co.uk\/activities\/football-womens\"><strong>Women\u2019s Football<\/strong><\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/ksu.co.uk\/activities\/hockey-womens\"><strong>Women\u2019s Hockey<\/strong><\/a>, and <a href=\"https:\/\/ksu.co.uk\/activities\/lacrosse-women\"><strong>Women\u2019s Lacrosse<\/strong><\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong><u>What staff networks are there? <\/u><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.kent.ac.uk\/equality-diversity-inclusivity\/staff-edi\/staff-equalities-networks\/womens-network\">Women\u2019s Staff Network<\/a><\/strong> at Kent has been running since 2004, and sub-networks that have formed since are the <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.kent.ac.uk\/equality-diversity-inclusivity\/staff-edi\/staff-equalities-networks\/womens-network\">Women\u2019s Researcher Network<\/a><\/strong> (WREN) and the newly formed <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/livekentac.sharepoint.com\/sites\/kentedi\/SitePages\/The-WITTS-(Women-in-IT-and-Technical-Services)-Network.aspx\">Women in IT and Technical Services Network<\/a><\/strong> (WITTS). WITTS will be holding a launch event soon and news of this will come out shortly. You can also email <a href=\"mailto:equalityanddiversity@kent.ac.uk\">equalityanddiversity@kent.ac.uk<\/a> to join any of the EDI Staff Networks.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong><u>How do I report an incident?<\/u><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Students and staff can report an incident such as harassment or bullying through <a href=\"https:\/\/reportandsupport.kent.ac.uk\/\"><strong>Report + Support<\/strong><\/a>. You can either make a named report and speak to an adviser or give an anonymous report.
