We know this has been a disruptive start to term, and we really appreciate the flexibility and support you have shown.<\/p>\n<p>If you have any questions about your teaching, your academic school or course team will be happy to help.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>**Updated 13 January at 11:00**<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Following yesterday\u2019s water supply issues,\u202fwe are pleased to\u202fprovide an update following the latest information received from South East Water this morning.<\/p>\n<p>At present,\u00a0<strong>water has begun to return to some buildings on Canterbury campus that were previously without supply<\/strong> including Keynes, Woolf, Turing and Giles Court, however a number of areas remain affected.\u202fSouth East\u202fWater have confirmed that their teams have been working overnight and that reservoir levels are beginning to recover. As a result, some customers in the wider area may start to see water return.<\/p>\n<p>However, they\u202fhave advised that:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>The recovery process will take a considerable amount of time due to the size of the network affected.<\/li>\n<li>Where water does return, it may be intermittent until the reservoirs have fully recovered.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Water quality and usage when supply returns<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>South East\u202fWater have advised that when water does return, it may initially appear brown,\u202fcloudy\u202for white. This is not harmful and is caused by disturbance within the mains. They recommend running the cold kitchen tap until the water clears.<\/p>\n<p>To help manage pressure on the system and prevent flooding,\u202f<strong>please ensure that all taps,<\/strong><strong>\u202fshowers<\/strong><strong>\u202fand water outlets are turned off when not in use<\/strong><strong>\u202fif you are on campus<\/strong>, particularly in buildings where water supply is returning intermittently.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Campus<\/strong><strong>\u202farrangements<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>As previously communicated,<strong>\u202faccess to<\/strong><strong>\u202four<\/strong><strong>\u202fCanterbury campus<\/strong><strong>\u202fremains<\/strong><strong>\u202frestricted today<\/strong>\u202fto reduce pressure on limited water resources and to protect health and safety.\u202f\u202fTeaching has been moved online or rescheduled.<\/p>\n<p>Catering outlets are open serving food and providing access to toilets. You can also access\u202fTempleman Library or\u202fthe\u202ffollowing Campus Lounges, which are all unaffected by the water supply issues:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Rutherford\u202fLounge<\/li>\n<li>Eliot Lounge<\/li>\n<li>Eliot Corner\u202fLounge<\/li>\n<li>Cornwallis South\u202fLounge<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>We recognise the continued uncertainty and disruption this situation is causing and thank you for your patience and cooperation. We will continue to monitor the situation closely and will provide further updates later today following South East Water\u2019s next update, which is expected at 14:30 today.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>**Updated at 12 January, 16:45**<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Following this morning\u2019s water supply issue on Canterbury campus caused by South East Water, our Maintenance team has successfully switched affected buildings to an alternative water supply.<\/p>\n<p>Water is now gradually returning to some buildings, and tanks in the\u00a0Park\u00a0Wood plant room are refilling. We are continuing to\u00a0monitor\u00a0the situation closely.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Buildings where water is being restored<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Water has now been re-instated to the following locations:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Park Wood Houses<\/li>\n<li>Parkwood Flats (Bossenden,\u00a0Kemsdale, Nickle, Stock)<\/li>\n<li>Hothe\u00a0Court\u00a0Farm House<\/li>\n<li>Kent Community Oasis Garden building<\/li>\n<li>Oaks Day Nursery<\/li>\n<li>Sports Pavilion<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Please note that it may take a couple of hours for water pressure to fully return. To avoid flooding, please ensure all taps and showers are switched off.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Buildings currently without water<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The following buildings are still without water:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Giles Court<\/li>\n<li>Woolf College<\/li>\n<li>Turing College<\/li>\n<li>Turing Hub<\/li>\n<li>Keynes College<\/li>\n<li>Due to the ongoing disruption, the Park Wood Co-op is currently closed.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>These areas cannot be supplied from an alternative source, so water\u00a0will be restored\u00a0when\u00a0South East\u00a0Water completes their repairs. We are in regular contact with them and will provide further updates as soon as they are available.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Toilets available for use<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Due to the ongoing water outage, toilets are not currently flushing in buildings impacted by the issue. Students should use toilet facilities in the following locations, where water supply is available:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Templeman Library &#8211; open 24 hours<\/li>\n<li>Eliot College &#8211; closes at 00.00<\/li>\n<li>Darwin College &#8211; closes at 00.00<\/li>\n<li>Rutherford College &#8211; closes at 00.00<\/li>\n<li>Grimond Building &#8211; closes at 23.00<\/li>\n<li>Jarman Building &#8211; closes at 18.00<\/li>\n<li>Marlowe Building &#8211; closes at 18.00<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Drinking water and refills<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Water stations will be set up in affected accommodation areas.
