Did you attend one of our Global Hangout events this year? The Student Voice and Experience Team were proud to close out this year’s Global Hangouts with a spectacular festival-style event on the Templeman Lawn, the Big Summer Send Off!
On 15th May, we hosted our most recent Global Hangout, the Big Summer Send Off, in which we invited both UK and International students to join us on the Templeman Lawn for the ultimate outdoor celebration. The event brought festival vibes to the Canterbury campus, featuring creative activities, music workshops and DJ sets, alongside a free BBQ:
Amazing Music: Global Sounds Education Workshop and Kent DJ Society
We were very lucky to have Global Sounds Education performer, Emmanuel Okine, join the event to run two drumming sessions, equipped with his fantastic Dun Dun drums. Students and staff alike were able to play the African drums alongside Emmanuel, whilst enjoying his showmanship and preforming for the rest of the event’s attendees.
We were also lucky to have the Kent DJ Society provide us with some festival vibes in the form of an unbeatable set of music throughout the Hangout.
Delicious Food: Free Summer BBQ And Ice-Cream
What would a festival be without some stand-out grub? And free, too, for anyone who wanted to attend! We are massively grateful to the Catering Team who provided us with a standout BBQ spread, as well as some lovely ice creams to beat the heat.
Kent Sports: Large Games and the Kent Touch This Ultimate Frisbee Society
And for anyone who wanted to make the most of the sunshine, and the Templeman Lawn, the Kent Touch This Ultimate Frisbee Society and Kent Sport team were there to make sure everyone got in the sporting spirit.
Creative Activities: Kite Decorating And Face-Painting
For those who wanted a more relaxed way to be creative, there were plenty of other activities that attendees could take part in, including:
- Face-painting
- Assembling and decorating kites
- A map stand with Scratch Maps, so students could share where they are joining us from
- Canvasses for painting the flags of students’ countries
What a way to end a fantastic year! The Big Summer Send-off was the best event yet, popped by with friend made new friends, joined the activities, listened to music and grabbed a plate of food. It was such a joy to see so many of our students having a great time together. The air was buzzing and so was I. Thanks to the team for their incredible work and the biggest thanks goes to our co creation students who help make these events truly amazing. 2026/27 Global Hangouts are going to be even better! Look out for the Big University Welcome – 27th September on Templeman Lawn!
