As you’ll be aware, from 1 August we are merging with the University of Greenwich to create the LASE University Group, a groundbreaking new multi-university group model. This will bring both institutions into one legal entity – the ‘UK’s first super-university’ – while enabling each university to retain its name, identity and local presence.
The vision for the new group is to deliver an outstanding student experience from city to coast, with students at the heart of everything we do. Our collective strength will mean we can do much more to empower students at Greenwich and Kent to shape their futures, unlocking talent and potential.
The merger is an evolution of this well-established relationship. Our two universities have been working together for more than 20 years and collaborate effectively. It is an opportunity to do even more together, strengthen our offering and bring greater benefits to students through innovative teaching, personalised support and a nurturing culture that celebrates individual differences.
Importantly, there will be no impact on your course, modules, teaching or campus location. You will still graduate with a University of Kent degree certificate, which will also show the name of the LASE University Group.
Both universities are working together to prepare for the next academic year. As part of that, we’ve reviewed our student terms and conditions to reflect the fact that from 1 August 2026 all terms and conditions will be with LASE University Group because Kent will be part of the Group.
You’ll be asked to accept the terms and conditions as part of the registration process for the 2026/27 academic year, as usual. You do not need to take any action at this point, although you can view the terms and conditions for information only. We’ve taken the opportunity to review and improve them in line with best practice so there is also a summary of any material changes from previous versions.
We have produced a set of FAQs below on these contract updates. Meanwhile you can read more about the merger here.
FAQs
The following FAQs have been produced to help answer likely questions from students on the changes to their terms and conditions.
What is changing?
All students agree to the university’s terms and conditions at the start of the academic year through the registration process.
The merger with the University of Greenwich on 1 August 2026 means that the terms and conditions for the 2026/27 academic year will be with LASE University Group, because Kent will be part of the group.
This is an administrative change because the legal entity for contractual purposes is the LASE University Group rather than the University of Kent.
We have also taken this opportunity to review and improve our student terms and conditions so they are aligned with best practice and the requirements of the Office for Students.
Because Greenwich and Kent have different student policies and regulations, and to reflect commitments we’ve made to students in each university, there are different versions of the terms and conditions for Greenwich and Kent students.
You can read the Kent terms and conditions and we’ve also produced a summary of any material changes
What do I need to do?
Nothing at this stage. As usual, students will accept the terms and conditions when they register at Kent for the 2026/27 academic year.
You can read the Kent terms and conditions, and we’ve also produced a summary of any material changes
Will this affect my course, teaching or campus location?
No. This is an administrative change to terms and conditions because the legal entity for contractual purposes is the LASE University Group rather than the University of Greenwich.
There will be no impact on students’ courses, modules, teaching or campus location.
Each university will retain its name, identity and local presence.
Will my degree still be with the University of Kent?
Yes. Students will still graduate with a University of Kent degree certificate, which will also show the name of the LASE University Group.
Why are we contacting students about this change?
We’re contacting students now to ensure they are aware that the name of the body in the student terms and conditions will be LASE University Group when they register in the autumn, and to explain why that’s necessary.
We also want to make sure students are aware there will no changes to their courses, teaching or degree certificates.
Does this affect students at both universities?
Yes. Student terms and conditions at both universities have been updated to reflect the change of the legal entity name to LASE University Group plus other improvements that we’ve made.
Does this also affect accommodation contracts?
Yes, student accommodation contracts are also being updated to reflect the change of the legal entity name to LASE University Group.
Students who have accommodation contracts are also being informed of the change separately via email.
Who do I contact if I have any questions?
If you have any questions about the student terms and conditions, please contact Nexus.
I am a student at the Kent and Medway Medical School. Does this affect me?
The Kent and Medway Medical School (KMMS) is a collaboration between Canterbury Christ Church University (CCCU) and the University of Kent.
The merger of the University of Kent and the University of Greenwich to form the LASE University Group from 1 August means KMMS will become a collaboration between CCCU and the LASE University Group.
When you register for the 2026/27 academic year you will accept student terms and conditions with KMMS, a joint medical school operated by CCCU and the LASE University Group.
This is an administrative change. There will be no impact on your course, modules, teaching or campus location. You will still graduate with a CCCU and University of Kent degree certificate, which will also show the name of the LASE University Group.
The merger also means accommodation contracts will be with the LASE University Group rather than the University of Kent. If you live in University of Kent accommodation, we will contact you again separately about this.
I am a student at the University of Kent International College. Does this affect me?
The University of Kent International College (UKIC) is a collaboration between the University of Kent and Oxford International Education Group (Oxford International).
The merger of the University of Greenwich and the University of Kent to form the LASE University Group from 1 August means UKIC will become a collaboration between the LASE University Group and Oxford International.
UKIC students enter into terms and conditions with Oxford International, and that won’t change. We intend to develop an updated version of our Kent Terms and Conditions specifically for UKIC students ahead of registration for the next academic year, and will contact UKIC students about this separately.
This is an administrative change. There will be no impact on your course, modules, teaching, pathway options or location.
