Need to apply for extenuating circumstances? Here’s what you need to know

If you’ve experienced difficult or unexpected circumstances that have affected your studies this academic year, you may be able to apply for End of Year Extenuating Circumstances (ECs).

To be considered by the July exam boards, you’ll need to submit your EC request through KentVision by 17:00hrs on Friday 19 June 2026. Submitting by this deadline gives staff enough time to review your application and supporting evidence before decisions are made.

What should you include in your application?

When completing your request, it’s important to provide:

  • A clear timeline explaining what has happened throughout the academic year.
  • Details of how these circumstances have affected your academic performance.
  • Information about each assessment that has been impacted.
  • An explanation of any assessments you were unable to submit.

You’ll also need to upload relevant supporting evidence with your application. Providing timely and appropriate documentation will help ensure your circumstances can be fully considered.

Need help with your application?

If you’re unsure where to start, the University has guidance available, including examples of what to include and step-by-step instructions for submitting your request through KentVision.

If you’ve been struggling, remember that support is available, and submitting an EC request can help ensure your circumstances are considered.
