Finding out that your work has been flagged for possible plagiarism or inappropriate use of AI can feel worrying. You might feel anxious, confused, embarrassed, or even frustrated. These reactions are completely understandable.
If you’ve been advised to book an appointment with the Skills for Academic Success (SAS) team, please don’t panic. Our role is to support you, not to discipline you.
A referral does not define you or your academic journey. Many students are referred because they are still learning about academic integrity, referencing, and the appropriate use of AI tools. Sometimes expectations are unclear, deadlines are stressful, or mistakes happen. What’s important is taking the opportunity to learn and move forward.
During an appointment, one of our advisers can help you:
- understand why your work was flagged
- identify where things may have gone wrong
- understand what academic integrity means in practice
- learn how to reference and use sources correctly
- use AI tools appropriately and within university guidance
- develop strategies to avoid similar issues in future assessments
Appointments are supportive, confidential conversations designed to help you build your academic skills and confidence.
In some cases, we may arrange an appointment for you. In others, we’ll ask you to book one yourself. Either way, we encourage you to take this next step. Seeking support is a positive action, and we’re here to help you succeed.
