GRC PhD Top-Up Fund 2026 – New Funding Opportunity Coming Soon

We are delighted to announce the launch of a GRC Top Up Fund, to support PhD students with additional research allowance funding.

The GRC is providing a top-up fund to support exceptional requests to assist PhD research. Examples of activities that might be supported include: specialised training, the presentation of papers at national or international conferences, fieldwork or data collection costs, or visits to archives. It is not designed to cover day to day costs or research consumables.

Applicants are required to comment on how the proposed funding could help them in their efforts to publish their work and/or how it will contribute to their personal and professional development. This top-up fund will be open from 16 March to 30 April 2026, applications can be received any time up until the end of April 2026 however early applications are encouraged as there is a limited amount of funding available. Once approved, funding must be spent by 10 July 2026.

To be eligible to apply, applicants must be in active registration (i.e within their minimum period of registration or continuation year (writing up or extended period)) and have used up all other funding available to them, including school PGR allocation or any scholarship funding. The maximum amount that can be requested via this fund is £1000.
