Finding your feet at Kent: Balancing study, wellbeing and everything else

Study is only one part of life. Paid work, caring responsibilities, health, family and other commitments can all take time and energy. If your personal circumstances are affecting your studies, Kent’s Student Engagement Support team can listen, offer practical guidance and help you find the right support.

Adjusting to university can also bring homesickness, loneliness, stress or uncertainty. Try to keep in touch with people you trust and make time for things that help you feel grounded, whether that’s getting outside, taking a break or doing something you enjoy.

Kent’s Student Support and Wellbeing team (SSW) help students with mental health, disability, neurodiversity and other wellbeing needs. The Student Welfare team can also offer confidential advice about settling into university life, safety, and household or accommodation issues.

You don’t need to know exactly which service to contact before asking for help. Academic Adviser or School’s support team can help you work out what to do next, and the university’s student support pages explain more about the options available. Finding your feet takes time; reaching out can be a good first step.
