Marking 10 years of Jo Cox’s legacy

This year marks ten years since the murder of Jo Cox MP. Jo Cox was a British Labour Party Member of Parliament for Batley and Spen, known for her passionate humanitarian advocacy, her promotion of community cohesion, and her tragic murder on 16 June 2016, days before the 2016 EU Referendum.

From Friday 19 June to Sunday 21 June, the Great Get Together, hosted by the Jo Cox Foundation, will bring people together through local events that celebrate connection, kindness, and belonging. It is an opportunity to honour Jo’s legacy and show what community really means. Information about events that are happening across the country are available through the Great Get Together campaign page.

In support of the Great Get Together campaign and Jo Cox, we are hosting a memorial wall between Monday 15 June and Sunday 21 June in the Templeman Welcome Hall, where we invite you to add your messages. These can be in memory of Jo Cox, in solidarity with women and women’s safety, or in support of the University community. Whatever you choose to write, this is a space for sharing messages in support of the aims and values of the Jo Cox Foundation:

  • Building relationships and supporting community-led action.
  • Advocating for the belief that “we have more in common”, bringing people together.
  • Advocating for change that increases respect and safety across communities, sharing strengths, skills, and resources.
  • Promoting kindness and compassion as signs of strength to understand others, build relationships, and bridge divides.
