Hear from Kent alumni and placement-year students about their experience working with data.

Speakers include:

  • Abi, Data Scientist at the National Energy System Operator (NESO)
Hi everyone, my name is Abi Ayoola. I’m really excited to be here and to share my journey with you all. I’d describe myself as thoughtful and driven, with a natural curiosity that shapes the way I learn and connect with others. I bring a calm, warm energy to my work and try to approach every challenge with a reflective, grounded mindset. Outside of work, I enjoy crochet and the arts, spending quality time with friends, and getting lost in great fiction novels. I studied Mathematics with a Foundation Year at the University of Kent from 2018 to 2023, and I’m currently a Graduate Data Scientist at NESO (the National Energy System Operator).

  • Phil, Innovation Lead at E.ON

  • Ben, Data Analyst at ITV
Hi I’m Ben. I graduated from UKC in 2021 with a BSc in Mathematics, moving into a role in the Advertising Technology (AdTech) industry. Made several lateral moves since graduation, upskilling statistics and data science expertise to transition into data roles – including pursuing a Master’s degree.

  • Julia, Final Year AI Computer Science student, Mercedes-AMG Formula One Team placement year
I’m a final-year Artificial Intelligence student and I have completed a 13-month placement with the Mercedes-AMG Formula One Team, supporting live race operations and software reliability during Formula One race weekends. Alongside my role, I took part in charity initiatives supporting Helen & Douglas House, including completing a 10km run around Silverstone Circuit and representing the Mercedes-AMG Women’s Football Team in a charity match against Aston Martin.

  • Tobi, Final Year Computer Science student, Morgan Stanley Tech placement year
Hi I’m Tobi, a final year computer science student. I completed my year in industry last year at Morgan Stanley in London. I worked as a software engineer during the placement, working with a variety of technologies and programming languages including Java, Python, Angular and SQL. The first 6 months of my placement were in client risk technology. I spent the latter half of my placement developing the tech behind the firms accounting.

This event is open to all students (science and non-science backgrounds). The event will include time for Q&A with the audience, and time for networking at the end.

We look forward to seeing you there!
