On 22 October, the Business Start-Up Journey launch event transformed a lecture theatre in Sibson into a hub of entrepreneurial energy and inspiration.

Students, alumni and staff came together to celebrate innovation, ambition and to hear about the exciting next steps of the University of Kent’s vibrant start up community.

Taking the stage first was Toyin Sanyaolu, a Kent Business School student and founder of The Wonder Lab Project, whose mission is to bring STEM learning to life for young people. Having launched her business in 2024, she has experienced massive demand for her services and is already exploring a franchise model. Toyin’s passion was infectious. At the event she said: “For me, entrepreneurship is about impact. When your work inspires others to learn and create, that’s real success” inspiring fellow students to dream bigger.

 Bal Sandher, a Kent Biomed graduate and founder of NutraDirectNext up was Bal Sandher, a Kent Biomed graduate and founder of NutraDirect, who shared his incredible story of turning a student idea into a global healthcare enterprise. What began as a one man start up now employs more than 200 people and is recognised as one of the Top 100 fastest growing businesses in the UK, with a forecast turnover of £40 million in 2025. “You need to find what motivates you in running your business; money will only motivate you for a while,” Bal said, reflecting on his journey from lecture halls to boardrooms.
