We’ve listened to your feedback about coursework deadlines and the extenuating circumstances process, and we’ve made some big changes to make things simpler, fairer and more supportive.
Here’s a summary of what’s changed, and you can find full guidance for submitting work on My Kent:
📅 All coursework deadlines now have a standard submission time of 12:00 (midday). This means staff are available to help if you run into any issues when submitting.
⏱️You now have a 48-hour grace period after the deadline (no approval needed and separate from extension requests).
- Submit within 24 hours of the deadline and your work will receive a maximum mark of 60%.
- Submit between 24–48 hours and your work will be capped at the module pass mark (undergraduate 40% and postgraduate 50%).
Either way, your work will still be marked and you’ll get feedback. If you don’t submit within the grace period, you can still get feedback on your work up to 7 calendar days after the original deadline. Email progadmin@kent.ac.uk to request this.
There are some assessments that don’t have a grace period (e.g. because answers are released to other students) but your assessment brief will let you know if this is the case.
🧭 We’ve updated the Mitigation of Extenuating Circumstances policy with clearer guidance to explain how to request an extension or other mitigation, including:
- What situations are eligible for mitigation
- What evidence you’ll need
- What support is available
We’ve also streamlined the KentVision process so it’s easier to request an extension or other support, with clear instructions on who to contact if your situation is more complex.
⏳ All extensions due to extenuating circumstances are now 7 calendar days as standard.
If you need more time due to exceptional circumstances, you can explain this in your request and the Engagement Support team will work with you to find the right support.
You can now only request one extension per piece of coursework, but you can include all the relevant details in that one request.
📢 Your Uni Your Say
We hope these changes make it easier for you to manage your workload and get the support you need when things don’t go to plan. As always, we’re here to listen — and to work with you to improve your experience.
