Jarman Building – Annual Emergency Lights Testing

On Tuesday 27 June 2017 from 9.00 to 12.00, the annual emergency light test is due to take place.

Tyler Court – Annual Emergency Lights Testing Programme

From Tuesday 20 Jun to Thursday 22 the annual emergency light test in Tyler Court will take place as follows:

Tyler Court A – Tuesday 20 June 2017 from 09.00 to 12.00.

Tyler Court C –  Wednesday 21 June 2017 from 09.00 to 12.00

Tyler Court B – Thursday 22 June 2017 from 09.00 to 12.00

Each test will take approximately 3 hours and lighting levels will be reduced for the duration.

Innovative Models and Practice in Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities Conference 2017

On Saturday 2 September The Tizard Centre will be holding the Innovative Models and Practice in Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities Conference 2017  in the Sibson Building. This will include a range of talks and sessions for delegates to participate in, a short film “This is Me” from Square Pegs drama group, networking with like-minded people and professorial inaugural talks by Prof Rachel Forrester-Jones and Prof Julie Beadle-Brown.

The Conference runs from 09.30 – 16.15 hrs and aims to bring together all updated research on intellectual and developmental disabilities. The day is aimed at professionals working in this area, Tizard Practitioner Network members and people with a personal interest in intellectual and developmental disabilities.

Linguistics PhD student wins IPrA prize

Isabella Reichl, a PhD in Linguistics student, has just been awarded the International Pragmatics Association (IPrA) Student Prize for her paper Refusals in Early Modern English Drama Texts: New Insights, New Classification.

The award includes the publication of the paper in the IPrA journal Pragmatics, as well as £500. Isabella received a message from the prize committee, praising her paper as an admirably accomplished scholarly exploration of historical pragmatics, done with gusto and technical expertise.

Isabella is undertaking her PhD project on ‘Initiating and Countering Pre-cooperative Illocutionary Acts in Present Day English’, supervised by Dr Eleni Kapogianni.

The International Pragmatics Association is the largest and most renowned international community of researchers working in the field of linguistic pragmatics. Established in 1986, it now has on average 1,400 members in over 70 countries. Its conference is organised every two years, attracting a very large number of attendees. This year, the 15th IPrA conference will be held in Belfast, 16-21 July, where Isabella will present her paper.

Service Disruptions

Rutherford College Corridors: E1N & S1S & Rooms: E1N1 & S1S1 – Essential Maintenance Works

On Monday the 19 June 2017, essential maintenance works to the electrical installations are due to take place within the below mentioned areas.
This will involve the isolation of the electrics in the whole corridor.

These works are planned to take place as follows:

E1N Corridor will have no electrical supply on Monday 19 June 08.00 – 12.00

S1S Corridor will have no electrical supply on Monday 19 June 12.00 – 16.00

Rooms: E1N1 and S1S1

The lighting will not be affected, it will only be the power to sockets in each of the rooms.

 

SSPR Entrance, Off Giles Lane – Tree Surgery

On Monday the 19 June 2017 from 08.00 to 16.00, Blean Tree Care will be carrying out the safe felling of an Ash Tree close to the steps, roadway and building.

There will be some footpath closures and noise disruption whilst this work is carried out.

 

Turing College – Construction of Various Footpaths and External Steps

From the 19 June 2017 until approximately 21st of July 2017, Emb Contractor has been appointed to undertake the above works. It is anticipated that the works will take approximately five weeks to complete (circa 21st July 2017).

There will be vehicle and plant movements throughout this period, but these works are quite straight forward and no disruption is anticipated.

Cornwallis Portable Appliance Testing (P.A.T.)

On the 21 and 22 of June, the portable appliance testing is scheduled to take place in Cornwallis.

Please ensure all equipment is available for testing.

Service Disruptions

On the 17 and 18 June 2017 from 08.00 to 17.00, the ground floor toilets in Cornwallis South (G17-18) will be closed for essential maintenance works to be carried out.

This will involve the breaking up and removal of the floor so that access can be gained to the damaged soil pipes, in preparation for their replacement. This is likely to cause some level of noise disruption.

All waste will be disposed of via a trailer, rather than a skip being stored on site.
