{"id":5153,"date":"2020-07-07T15:10:27","date_gmt":"2020-07-07T14:10:27","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blogs.kent.ac.uk\/sspssr-news-events\/?p=5153"},"modified":"2020-07-07T15:10:27","modified_gmt":"2020-07-07T14:10:27","slug":"meet-the-author-event-8-july","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.kent.ac.uk\/sspssr-news-events\/2020\/07\/07\/meet-the-author-event-8-july\/","title":{"rendered":"Meet the author event 8 July"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>A new book by Alisoun Milne, Professor of Social Gerontology and Social Work at the School of Social Policy, Sociology and Social Research, provides insights into how lifecourse and age related inequalities and experiences impact mental health and wellbeing in later life.<\/p>\n<p>Entitled,<em><span style=\"color: #171717;font-family: Arial\"> Mental Health in Later Life: Taking a Lifecourse Approach<\/span><\/em>, the book analyses the meaning and determinants of mental health amongst older populations and offers a critical review of the lifecourse, ageing and mental health discourses for health and social care students, practitioners, policy makers and researchers.<\/p>\n<p>A free virtual <a href=\"https:\/\/www.eventbrite.co.uk\/e\/meet-the-author-prof-alisoun-milne-author-of-mental-health-in-later-life-tickets-111050613374\">\u2018Meet the Author\u2019<\/a> event will be hosted by <a href=\"https:\/\/www.kent.ac.uk\/social-policy-sociology-social-research\/people\/1950\/milne-alisoun-j\">Professor Milne<\/a> on 8 July 2020 at 19.00 to discuss her book where she will welcome input from attendees during a Q&amp;A.<\/p>\n<p>Professor Milne said: \u2018The mental health of older populations is often overlooked. My new book adopts a lifecourse lens to explore and distil the individual and structural factors that undermine, or conversely promote, mental health in later life. My experiences as a social worker, researcher and lecturer are all brought to bear on a topic that has relevance for all in us.
