{"id":4964,"date":"2019-10-11T11:30:31","date_gmt":"2019-10-11T10:30:31","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blogs.kent.ac.uk\/sspssr-news-events\/?p=4964"},"modified":"2019-10-11T11:31:06","modified_gmt":"2019-10-11T10:31:06","slug":"dr-kari-lancaster-presents-her-research-on-evidence-making-intervention","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.kent.ac.uk\/sspssr-news-events\/2019\/10\/11\/dr-kari-lancaster-presents-her-research-on-evidence-making-intervention\/","title":{"rendered":"Dr Kari Lancaster presents her research on evidence-making intervention"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The SSPSSR Staff-Student Research seminar on 17 October 2019 will be delivered by\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.arts.unsw.edu.au\/our-people\/kari-lancaster\">Dr Kari Lancaster<\/a> of UNSW Australia on &#8216;evidence making interventions&#8217;.<\/p>\n<p>Dr Lancaster&#8217;s presentation invites a shift away from thinking with evidence primarily as a matter of epistemology \u2013 the different ways interventions can be known \u2013 towards thinking with evidence as a matter of ontology \u2013 how interventions are performed through knowledge-making practices. An \u2018evidence-making intervention\u2019 approach offers a framework for conceptualising how evidence and interventions are made relationally in practices, thus working with the politics and contingencies of implementation and policy-making. By emphasising relational materiality and performativity, this approach engages with interventions, and their knowing, as matters-of-practice in local implementation events. This thinking has practical implications for evidencing and intervening. The seminar is based on the findings discussed in a paper published in October&#8217;s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.sciencedirect.com\/science\/article\/pii\/S0277953619304812?via%3Dihub\">Social Science and Medicine<\/a> journal.<\/p>\n<p>This seminar will be particularly relevant for people interested in the use of evidence in policy, especially health policy, and in the application of science and technology studies.<\/p>\n<p>All are welcome, the seminar will be in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.kent.ac.uk\/maps\/canterbury\/canterbury-campus\/building\/cornwallis-east\">Cornwallis East Seminar Room 2<\/a> at 16.00-17.30.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"margin: 0px;color: black;font-family: 'Calibri',sans-serif\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The SSPSSR Staff-Student Research seminar on 17 October 2019 will be delivered by\u00a0Dr Kari Lancaster of UNSW Australia on &#8216;evidence making interventions&#8217;.
