{"id":3602,"date":"2017-07-17T13:38:01","date_gmt":"2017-07-17T12:38:01","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blogs.kent.ac.uk\/sspssr-news-events\/?p=3602"},"modified":"2019-05-21T14:13:46","modified_gmt":"2019-05-21T13:13:46","slug":"praise-for-china-expert-dr-joy-zhang","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.kent.ac.uk\/sspssr-news-events\/2017\/07\/17\/praise-for-china-expert-dr-joy-zhang\/","title":{"rendered":"Praise for China expert Dr Joy Zhang"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The <strong>newspaper devoted four articles<\/strong> to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.kent.ac.uk\/sspssr\/staff\/academic\/w-z\/zhang-joy.html\">Dr Zhang\u2019s <\/a>recent book entitled <a href=\"https:\/\/drjoyzhang.com\/2017\/06\/05\/peoples-daily-on-small-world\/\"><em><span style=\"color: #0066cc\">Small World: Footnotes to Academic Observations<\/span><\/em><\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The book <strong>draws on Dr Zhang\u2019s experience of the Chinese diaspora<\/strong> in the US, the UK and France and uses everyday examples to provide <strong>fresh insights on how Chinese societies approach issues such as identity, diversity, nationalism<\/strong> and China\u2019s rise in a globalised world.<\/p>\n<p>Dr Zhang, of the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.kent.ac.uk\/sspssr\/index.html\">School of Social Policy, Sociology and Social Research<\/a>, has written a <strong>bi-weekly column in the People\u2019s Daily over the past six years<\/strong> \u2013 amounting to some 150 articles \u2013 which formed the basis for the book. <a href=\"http:\/\/en.people.cn\/\"><em><span style=\"color: #0066cc\">People\u2019s Daily<\/span><\/em> <\/a>senior journalist Xiaoyun Meng said that the newspaper \u2018took pride\u2019 in being able to host Dr Zhang\u2019s column.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The newspaper devoted four articles to Dr Zhang\u2019s recent book entitled Small World: Footnotes to Academic Observations.
