{"id":2920,"date":"2016-06-29T17:28:26","date_gmt":"2016-06-29T16:28:26","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blogs.kent.ac.uk\/sspssr-news-events\/?p=2920"},"modified":"2019-05-21T14:17:41","modified_gmt":"2019-05-21T13:17:41","slug":"esrcsedtc-conference-9-10-sept-heritage-and-biography","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.kent.ac.uk\/sspssr-news-events\/2016\/06\/29\/esrcsedtc-conference-9-10-sept-heritage-and-biography\/","title":{"rendered":"ESRC\/SEDTC Conference 9-10 Sept: Heritage and Biography"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Under the critical recognition that we become who we are by telling stories about our pasts, and living the stories we tell, this two-day interdisciplinary event aims to bring together perspectives on the relationship between heritage and biography from sociology and cultural studies, literary studies, social history, cultural geography and socio-legal studies.<\/p>\n<p>We invite doctoral and early career researchers to submit abstracts on heritage\u2019s relationship to personal, community, national, ethnic, gendered and political biographies, bringing a critical focus to heritage as a product and expression of an evolving and dynamic negotiation of past, present and future.<\/p>\n<p>The event\u00a0is organised by University of Kent postgraduate students Luke Shoveller (ESRC), Emma Pleasant, Sophie Rowland and Katy Lawn (ESRC; Royal Holloway), supported by <a href=\"https:\/\/www.kent.ac.uk\/sspssr\/staff\/academic\/n-r\/nettleingham-david.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">Dr David Nettleingham<\/a> (Lecturer in Cultural Sociology, University of Kent).<\/p>\n<p>The group was awarded funding following an open competition organised by the ESRC South East Doctoral Training Centre (SEDTC) and will\u00a0take place at the University of Kent\u00a0in Canterbury on Friday 9 September and Medway on Saturday 10 September 2016.<\/p>\n<p>For full conference details can be found on the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.kent.ac.uk\/sspssr\/news-events\/heritage-and-biography.html\" target=\"_blank\">event webpage<\/a>.
