\n<\/a>We were delighted to see our first ever MA cohort graduate on 16\u00a0July 2015!\u00a0We\u2019re so proud of their impressive and very well-deserved 100% success rate, with many distinctions and merits.<\/p>\n

Congratulations to Claire Pascoe, Social Care Team Manager, for being awarded The Professor Olive Stevenson Prize<\/strong><\/em> for the best child protection dissertation, entitled \u201cTroubled and Troublesome: The Evolving Journeys of Young People As Victims and Perpetrators into Child Sexual Exploitation, and Professionals\u2019 Need to Analyse the Unthinkable\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n

“Congratulations to you all, from the team at the Centre for Child Protection, University of Kent!”<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n

Some of the graduating students\u2019 comments:<\/p>\n

\u201cIt has given me confidence to challenge other practitioners and push for feedback and outcomes of referrals.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n

\u201cMade me reflect on what other agencies needed to put them on an equal footing because I think there is a tendency for life in child protection to be very social work focused.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n

\u201cReally insightful to hear other people\u2019s view, opinions and experiences. They [online forums] also prompted me to think differently and to focus my reading. They gave the opportunity to share articles and links with other students.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n

\u201cAs the designated officer in a small team it gave me the opportunity to reflect in a safe environment and discuss sensitive issues.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n

\u201cListening to and seeing a\u00a0lecture\u2026a good way to understand the content. Being able to pause and rewind meant that anything unclear could be revisited later. The accompanying questions also helped focus on the important content.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n


\n\u201cA great team of lecturers whose approach was just right and they commanded respect in their field.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n

\u201cThe whole module on unconscious processes blew me away: I was initially pretty sceptical \u2013 and baffled \u2013 but am beginning to \u2018get it\u2019 and really viewing organisational and individual behaviour through a variety of lens, including defence and fear, about how this can skew practice and responses.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cI am more theoretically aware now, than when I joined the course, and am applying, possibly less consciously, a range of theories\u201d.<\/em><\/p>\n

\u201cThe ideas about brain development, attachment, and parental mentalizing are increasingly being accepted amongst practitioners as very important when thinking about risk.\u201d\u00a0<\/em><\/p>\n

\u201cIt has helped me to understand that there is a very strong and accessible evidence base for good practice, and which practice models can be built upon.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n
