{"id":2222,"date":"2014-11-05T09:46:18","date_gmt":"2014-11-05T09:46:18","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blogs.kent.ac.uk\/sspssr-news-events\/?p=2222"},"modified":"2021-04-10T12:28:13","modified_gmt":"2021-04-10T11:28:13","slug":"uk-philanthropy-bouyant-says-research","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.kent.ac.uk\/sspssr-news-events\/2014\/11\/05\/uk-philanthropy-bouyant-says-research\/","title":{"rendered":"UK philanthropy bouyant says research"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Nearly three hundred UK donations of \u00a31m or more, with a value of \u00a31.36bn, were made to charitable causes or banked in foundations in 2013.<\/p>\n<p>The research is published in the annual <a href=\"http:\/\/philanthropy.coutts.com\/\">Coutts Million Pound Donor Report<\/a>, released on 3 November. This report tracks the number, size, scale, and destination of \u00a31m+ donations made by individuals, foundations and corporations in the UK.<\/p>\n<p>The number of gifts represents a 50% increase on 2012, though the total value is only a 1% increase on the \u00a31.35bn identified in the previous year. The number of donations of \u00a31m+ is the highest ever recorded since the report was first produced in 2008.<\/p>\n<p>Higher education institutions continue to be the most popular beneficiaries, with 65 or 41% of all \u00a31m+ donations, totalling \u00a3552m, to fund initiatives such as research projects and scholarships.
