{"id":2115,"date":"2014-08-21T10:53:59","date_gmt":"2014-08-21T10:53:59","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blogs.kent.ac.uk\/sspssr-news-events\/?p=2115"},"modified":"2019-05-21T14:14:58","modified_gmt":"2019-05-21T13:14:58","slug":"careers-in-academia-for-phd-students","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.kent.ac.uk\/sspssr-news-events\/2014\/08\/21\/careers-in-academia-for-phd-students\/","title":{"rendered":"Careers in academia for PhD students"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Two students who successfully completed their PhD studies with the School of Social Policy, Sociology and Social Research at the University of Kent have gone on to careers in the world of academia.<\/p>\n<p>Fahid Qurashi, who completed his PhD in Sociology at Kent in 2012, has recently taken up a Lectureship in Criminology at Canterbury Christchurch University.<\/p>\n<p>Leo McCann, who studied for a PhD in Sociology at Kent from 1998 to 2001, joined Manchester Business School in 2004.\u00a0 He has just been appointed to a Chair in MBS.\u00a0\u00a0 Leo said \u201c<em>I thoroughly enjoyed my time as a PhD student at Kent. There was always a very strong research culture around the department.
