The ability to understand children and young people\u2019s experiences is crucial at both the assessment and intervention stage. Simply talking to them is neither sufficient nor effective in itself to fully grasp the \u2018intentional state\u2019 of their inner mind. Similarly, using a range of materials will not automatically open the door for them to express themselves.You now have the opportunity to study an online 10 week module about this very important area of practice.\u00a0\u00a0The module has been developed at MA level by the Centre for Child Protection and upon successful completion will be will be awarded 20 MA credits and will be officially accredited by the University of Kent. \u00a0Written and developed by Yvonne Shemmings, a continuous professional development specialist with vast experience in direct work with children, the module is being co-ordinated by Vanisha Jassal at the Centre for Child Protection.<\/p>\n

Its design adheres to the Centre\u2019s approach to innovative learning through use of interactive materials and video lectures from experienced professionals in the field as well as other academically rigorous resources.\u00a0 Its online discussion forums create an effective learning environment for practitioners and managers who tend to come from a variety of child protection organisations, thereby amplifying what can be learnt about how we each carry out direct work, why we do it this way and how our organisations can support us in this endeavour.<\/p>\n

The module starts on 8th<\/sup>\u00a0September and ends on 16th<\/sup>\u00a0November.\u00a0There is an Induction Day on 1st<\/sup>\u00a0September which will be held at the University of Kent campus in Canterbury.\u00a0To support participants in the module and prepare them for the module assignment a study day will be held at Canterbury on 10th<\/sup>\u00a0October.<\/p>\n

The cost of the module is \u00a3895 per person (there may be an opportunity for organisational discounts)<\/p>\n

Before you register your interest in this module,\u00a0please note the below entry requirements for this module which will be required once you press the \u2018Register\u2019 tab on our website<\/a>:<\/b><\/p>\n

1) Participants must be employed by a UK based organisation and should be working directly with children and\/or young people and be CRB checked<\/p>\n

2) Confirmation of all the points in 1) must be included in a letter from your employer (a HR representative or senior manager) on letter-headed paper and submitted to the Centre for Child protection<\/p>\n
