{"id":1831,"date":"2014-01-27T10:03:29","date_gmt":"2014-01-27T10:03:29","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blogs.kent.ac.uk\/sspssr-news-events\/?p=1831"},"modified":"2019-05-21T14:15:02","modified_gmt":"2019-05-21T13:15:02","slug":"help-for-people-living-in-fear","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.kent.ac.uk\/sspssr-news-events\/2014\/01\/27\/help-for-people-living-in-fear\/","title":{"rendered":"Help for people living in fear"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Almost half of all adults with learning disabilities and autism surveyed in new research led by the University\u2019s <a title=\"Tizard Centre website\" href=\"http:\/\/www.kent.ac.uk\/tizard\/\">Tizard Centre<\/a> said they had suffered some form of disability hate related incident when they were out in the community.<\/p>\n<p>The Kent-based, three-year research project, titled <a title=\"Report findings\" href=\"http:\/\/www.mcch.org.uk\/pages\/multimedia\/db_document.document?id=7849\">Living in Fear: Better Outcomes for People with Learning Disabilities and Autism<\/a>, found that a third of those surveyed living in the Medway area said they had been attacked and victimised.<\/p>\n<p>Dr Julie Beadle-Brown, Reader in Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities at the Tizard Centre said: \u2018The impact of these types of hate crime can be severe and long lasting.
