{"id":1265,"date":"2013-03-21T11:40:18","date_gmt":"2013-03-21T11:40:18","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blogs.kent.ac.uk\/sspssr-news-events\/?p=1265"},"modified":"2019-05-21T14:15:31","modified_gmt":"2019-05-21T13:15:31","slug":"sspssr-student-wins-postgraduate-experience-award","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.kent.ac.uk\/sspssr-news-events\/2013\/03\/21\/sspssr-student-wins-postgraduate-experience-award\/","title":{"rendered":"SSPSSR Student Wins Postgraduate Experience Award"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>SSPSSR student Hannah Perrin has won the Graduate School&#8217;s <em>Postgraduate Experience Award <\/em>for a project supporting postgraduate students.<\/p>\n<p>The innovative <a href=\"http:\/\/www.kent.ac.uk\/graduateschool\/SUAW%20A5%20Flier.pdf\" title=\"SUAW\" target=\"_blank\">&#8220;Shut Up and Write!&#8221; <\/a>scheme helps postgraduate students across the whole University to meet their writing targets as they progress through their degree. &#8220;Shut Up and Write!&#8221; &#8211; or <em>SUAW<\/em> &#8211;  involves a group of students that meet once a month for coffee and cookies, then a 30-minute countdown starts; during which there must be no talking, mobile phones, or internet access &#8211; just writing; then a quick break, and another writing period.  <\/p>\n<p>The aim is to get words down on paper, whether or not they need editing afterwards.  Award winner Hannah, a second year PhD candidate in Social Policy said, &#8220;As someone who suffers from chronic procrastinitis, the group is a really useful way to make yourself accountable for the writing you&#8217;ve been putting off.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>The group meets on the last Wednesday of every month and all postgraduate students are welcome &#8211; details are on the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.kent.ac.uk\/calendar\/\" title=\"University calendar\" target=\"_blank\">University Events Calendar<\/a>. <\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>SSPSSR student Hannah Perrin has won the Graduate School&#8217;s Postgraduate Experience Award for a project supporting postgraduate students.
