Public statement on tuition fees rise and cuts in higher education funding

On December 9th, 2010, the House of Commons passed a motion that will see tuition fees for UK and EU students rise to an unprecedented level.

The School of Social Policy, Sociology and Social Research condemns the tuition fee increases, the cuts to the Education Maintenance Allowance, and the proposed 80% cut to the University Teaching Grant. The School affirms its commitment to fostering an open, critically engaged learning environment that is accessible to students from a diverse range of backgrounds.

We also express our commitment to resisting the further and ongoing privatisation of higher education.
