The public is invited to join top academics in their fields as they discuss the latest research on topics that touch everyday lives.
The Division for the Study of Law, Society and Social Justice (LSSJ) is hosting a new series of Professorial Civic Engagement Lectures aimed at engaging the public on topics such as law, race, health, food poverty, equality, environment and criminal justice.
The lectures will be held in the University’s iconic Moot Court and are free and open to everyone. The speakers are professors from the LSSJ division who are experts in their respective disciplines. They will present their research in an accessible and engaging way, and invite questions and comments from the audience.
The aim of the series is to foster dialogue and collaboration between the academic community and the wider society, and to showcase the impact and relevance of the research conducted at the University of Kent.
The first lecture Who is multiracial and why does it matter? will be given by Professor Miri Song, who will talk about how multiracial identity is defined, and if people of mixed heritage belong to a marginalized group.
Darren Weir, Co-Director of Public Engagement & External Relations, said: “We are delighted to launch this new lecture series that will bring our professors closer to the public, and share their insights and discoveries on topics that matter to everyone. We hope that these lectures will inspire curiosity, learning and action among our attendees.”
