Professor Keith Hayward recently returned from a short lecture tour of Brazil, Argentina and Uruguay, where he gave a series of open lectures on cultural criminology at amongst other places the University of Buenos Aires and Pontifical Catholic University, Porto Alegre. A central element of these papers was the idea that South American governments should not unthinkingly adopt criminal justice and policing models form the United States, but should instead develop their own culturally-bespoke initiatives.
