The social rights of migrants have become a salient political issue in Northern Western European countries. The context is the increased level of migration, in general, and the right to free movement of labour within EU, in particular. The underlying unresolved question is whether generous welfare states can coexist with high levels of migration.
On 31 May, Christian Albrekt-Larson, Professor of Comparative Welfare Studies at Aalborg University, will explain how existing welfare state schemes influence public attitudes towards giving migrants access to social benefits and services.
