For many years the Tizard Centre has held an Annual Lecture and we were delighted that David Behan, Chief Executive of the Care Quality Commission was able to deliver the first Jim Mansell Memorial Lecture. The event has been renamed in remembrance of Jim Mansell, founder of the Tizard Centre, who sadly passed away in March 2012. We were honoured that Jim’s widow, Stephanie and two of his children, Jennie & Harry were able to join us on this occasion. It was equally fitting that David Behan delivered the first talk as a close associate of Jim’s. David continues to have a distinguished career in social care.
The evening is an important way of highlighting issues that we care strongly about and of bringing together people from a range of backgrounds, both inside and outside of the University, many of whom we have worked with in the past or are currently working with.
We were also delighted to welcome Melvyn & Sophie Newell who very kindly presented the Tizard Annual Awards. Francesca Ribenfors won the Best Masters Mark 2013 and Stephen Marchant was presented with the Edward Newell prize 2012. The other prize winners were unable to attend the event.
The lecture was extremely well attended by over 90 people with many guests staying to Dinner with us at Darwin College. The evening was a great success and enjoyed by all.
