The annual Fred Freeman lecture, at the University of Liverpool, celebrates philanthropy on Merseyside, the North West and society as a whole. At this year’s event on 21 May, Dr Beth Breeze and Emeritus Professor Hugh Cunningham have been invited to discuss the reputation of philanthropy, examining how the points made against philanthropy in the 19th century are very similar to those directed to it in the twenty-first century, and ask how those findings relate to the role of philanthropy in today’s society.
