Congratulations to our MA students

We were delighted to see our first ever MA cohort graduate on 16 July 2015! We’re so proud of their impressive and very well-deserved 100% success rate, with many distinctions and merits.

Congratulations to Claire Pascoe, Social Care Team Manager, for being awarded The Professor Olive Stevenson Prize for the best child protection dissertation, entitled “Troubled and Troublesome: The Evolving Journeys of Young People As Victims and Perpetrators into Child Sexual Exploitation, and Professionals’ Need to Analyse the Unthinkable”

“It has given me confidence to challenge other practitioners and push for feedback and outcomes of referrals.”

“Made me reflect on what other agencies needed to put them on an equal footing because I think there is a tendency for life in child protection to be very social work focused.”

“Really insightful to hear other people’s view, opinions and experiences. They [online forums] also prompted me to think differently and to focus my reading. They gave the opportunity to share articles and links with other students.”

“As the designated officer in a small team it gave me the opportunity to reflect in a safe environment and discuss sensitive issues.”

“Listening to and seeing a lecture…a good way to understand the content. Being able to pause and rewind meant that anything unclear could be revisited later. The accompanying questions also helped focus on the important content.”

“The whole module on unconscious processes blew me away: I was initially pretty sceptical – and baffled – but am beginning to ‘get it’ and really viewing organisational and individual behaviour through a variety of lens, including defence and fear, about how this can skew practice and responses.”

“I am more theoretically aware now, than when I joined the course, and am applying, possibly less consciously, a range of theories”.

“The ideas about brain development, attachment, and parental mentalizing are increasingly being accepted amongst practitioners as very important when thinking about risk.” 

“It has helped me to understand that there is a very strong and accessible evidence base for good practice, and which practice models can be built upon.”
